Rihanna made the ultimate show-stopping entrance tonight at the 2015 Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This year’s Met Gala theme is China: Through The Looking Glass but the Barbadian beauty was one of the few attendees that opted to wear something from a Chinese designer. Rihanna, who was styled by Mel Ottenberg, wore a stunning, fur-trimmed embroidered yellow coat with an enormous train from Guo Pei‘s 2010 couture collection, which was titled “Arabian One Thousand and Two Nights”.
If you’ve never heard of Guo Pei, she has been designing couture in China for more than 15 years under her own Mei Gui Fang atelier. Her designs are incredibly intricate and take thousands of hours to create. Her creations are heavily influenced by Asian culture but there is also a slight Western touch to the designs. Her work has been included in this year’s Met Exhibition alongside many more well known designers, a testament to her skill.
Under that amazing coat was a custom-made pink bustier by Agent Provocateur and a pair of Christian Louboutin lamé triple strap pumps muse pumps ($995). Her jewellery included a beautiful headpiece by Guo Pei and a rose gold and diamond necklace by Cartier. Rihanna’s makeup was done by Mylah Morales, her longtime makeup artist and friend, using Dior beauty products.
