Rihanna has been a very busy woman in 2015. She has landed magazine cover after magazine cover and it only adds to the anticipation of her next album. The singer began branching out last year past the typical US/UK magazines and she has gone a step further by securing two covers for the April issue of Harper’s Bazaar China, which you would have seen posted on her Instagram. The covers and editorial were shot by photographer Chen Man and styled by Xiaomu Fan, who is the magazine’s style director. Yusef Williams was responsible for hair while Mylah Morales did makeup. Throughout the editorial Rih wears pieces from the Spring 2015 couture collections. Read on for a breakdown of each look.
On the first cover Rihanna looks stunning in a brightly-coloured dress from Viktor & Rolf‘s Spring 2015 couture collection. The design duo refer to this as the Van Gogh Girls dress since, like most of the collection, it was inspired by Van Gogh’s paintings of flowers and landscapes. The cold shoulder baby doll dress features a lovely floral print and is embellished down one side with 3D renditions of those flowers.
On the second cover Rihanna looks regal in Christian Dior. While her black embroidered gloves and printed dress seem to be custom, the coat is Spring 2015 couture. The translucent coat bears a delicate floral print and has sleeves that end just past the elbow. The star also wore Dior in her last editorial and she recently filmed something for the brand.
Next Rih poses in a neutral-toned look from Valentino Spring 2015 couture [Look 23]. The outfit comprises a floor-length lace vest, a semi-sheer pleated top in a similar shade of green with a high neckline and long sleeves, and an embroidered suede skirt with fur trim.
The fabulous nails in this set of photos were created by the duo behind H & H (Holly and Hannah). Their sculpted metal nails are miniature works of art and have been featured in music videos by Madonna and Beyoncé. Here Rih rocks the Swarovski arrow nails in black ruthenium. Here Rih looks mysterious in Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2015 couture. The voluminous emerald green dress [Look 10] is sleeveless with white trim. On the runway it was paired with a belted jacket but Rihanna works it alone in a way that only she can. She is also wearing another set of metal nails by H & H and Piers Atkinson‘s Spring/Summer 2015 Wisteria Mysteria hat.
In the above photo Rihanna is red hot in Atelier Versace Spring 2015 couture. The red dress [Look 45] has one sleeve and sheer mesh panels. The brand is known for it’s sexy form-fitting dresses and this gown definitely fits the bill. The cut outs extend to the back of the dress. Only someone as daring as Rihanna could pull this off with confidence.
In this shot the singer poses with a traditional Chinese parasol while wearing a black jumpsuit and matching coat from Elie Saab‘s Spring 2015 couture collection [Look 50]. Both pieces feature the designer’s signature sequins and sheer with the added touch of marabou feathers on the coat.
Finally, we got the most amazing shot of Rih in more H & H metal nails. These ones are the black and gold Engraved set. You can purchase these baroque nails if you are interested. Check out their online shop where prices for this style begin at £85 (you will find them on page 10). Also, follow @handhnails on Instagram to see more of their work.
