Rihanna participated in Barbados’ 2013 Kadooment Day Parade which means that another Crop Over season has come to an end. For those of you who don’t know, the Crop Over season celebrates the end of the sugar cane harvest. The festival dates back to slavery but it has been through many changes over the past few decades. The festival officially begins in July (but events start as early as May) with lots of fun parties, soca competitions and of course, Foreday Morning Jam. The Kadooment Day parade is held on the first Monday in August and is the last event of the season. This was Rihanna’s second time jumping in the parade.
Rihanna jumped with Zulu International – well known across the Caribbean region for having some of the best costume bands. This was the first time they put forward a full costume band for Kadooment. The theme for 2013 was “Spartacus” and Rihanna’s section was called Legends. Zulu describes the legend as “strong of character, great of leadership, bold of courage.” Rih’s costume was comprised of a bejeweled two-piece swimsuit and a feathered headband and shrug. Other elements included a bejeweled headband and a necklace. She accessorised with Versace sunglasses and adidas Originals wedge sneakers.
- Sunglasses: Versace VE2131 shield sunglasses ($216)
- Shoes: adidas Basket Profi Up wedge sneakers ($95)
