Earlier this year it was announced that Rihanna would become the first black woman to be the face of a Christian Dior campaign. The Barbadian singer has been a favourite of Raf Simons, Dior’s creative director, for some time so it was inevitable that these two brands collide. Not only does another high fashion campaign further solidify Rihanna’s position within the industry but this historical feat adds some much-needed diversity to the Parisian brand’s roster.
Last week we received a few teasers about the campaign on social media and now it’s finally here. Rihanna fronts the newest installment in Dior’s Secret Garden series, which is always filmed at the Château de Versailles in Paris. The Secret Garden IV video and accompanying print campaign were shot by renowned photographer Steven Klein who the entertainer has worked with in the past. Here are both the long and short versions of the video. Update March 2, 2017: It seems Dior removed the videos from their Youtube channel. Updated to add a fan-uploaded version.
She was styled by Mel Ottenberg who primarily used clothing from the Pre-Fall 2015 collection. You may recall some of these looks from this post or this one. The accessories included the well-known So Real sunglasses (from $450) and several Diorama handbags, which are a favorite of Rih’s. Take a look at the print campaign below.
