Cue Wait Your Turn because the wait is almost over! Ok, it’s not quite over but it will be in 2017. Fans and beauty lovers in general have been clamouring for Rihanna to release a makeup line for years. There was a collaboration with MAC that was extremely successful but it was also for a limited time. And everything sold out so quickly (especially those amazing lipsticks) that not everyone was able to get something from Riri ♥ MAC. Today Women’s Wear Daily announced that LVMH has signed Rihanna to a multi-million dollar contract to create her own makeup brand under their Kendo division.
Most of Rihanna’s fans don’t know about LVMH but this is a big deal as they own several fashion houses such as Céline, Givenchy, and Fendi while the Kendo division is the reason beloved makeup lines like Kat Von D and Marc Jacobs Beauty exist. LVMH was beyond excited for this partnership due to Rihanna’s success at raising the profile of several brands, increasing profits in a short period of time and just generally being one of today’s biggest stars. David Suliteanu, Kendo’s CEO, had this to say:
“[it’s] a beauty rocket ship that will appeal to a huge and diverse global audience. We are aiming for the stars.”
Rihanna’s makeup brand will be known as Fenty Beauty by Rihanna. The singer has been using her last name in all of her business ventures so this is not a surprise. Fenty Beauty will be launched in the fall of 2017.
Personally, I’ve always loved her makeup and nails so I’m particularly excited. She’s never afraid to try bold lip colours, make statements with her nails (who remembers the yellow emoticon nails or the Minx money mani?) or to rock fierce liner and crazy lashes. And with her being a woman of colour I’m sure that whatever she releases under Fenty Beauty will suit a wide range of skin tones. That’s something that most makeup brands fail to do even though women of colour love makeup just as much as everyone else.
