Stella is not simply the daughter of one the world’s legendary rock stars, Sir Paul McCartney, but she is also one of the top eco-friendly designers in the world.
At the age of thirteen McCartney began designing clothes for herself and in a few years would intern with couturier Christian Lacroix. She went on to study fashion design at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design. Stella’s celebrity upbringing allowed her to snag models like Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss for her graduation collection.
In just two short years, Stella succeeded fashon icon Karl Lagerfeld as the Creative Director of Chloé. She was so unknown in the fashion world that Karl expressed his doubts about the decision. However, she worked with the Paris fashion house for a few years and was quite successful.
In 2001 she created her own eponymous label based in Paris. Her late mother, Linda McCartney, was an animal rights activist and Stella has been a vegetarian her whole life. This greatly influenced her decision to make the line an eco-friendly one. Stella does not use leather or fur in her designs but prefers to use synthetic materials to achieve the same high fashion look.
Her most well-known clients include Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Moss and Cameron Diaz. Rihanna can regularly be seen in Stella’s designs both on and off the red carpet. McCartney also had the honour of writing Rihanna’s profile for TIME’s 100 Most Influential People. For more information on Stella McCartney, please visit the official website.
