Rihanna and Eminem kicked off The Monster Tour at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California on Thursday night. The two artists performed close to 50 songs during the show. Everyone was eager to see what Mel Ottenberg and his style team had created for this show and they weren’t disappointed.
Rih and Em opened the show with Numb, which saw Rihanna take the stage in a flame-covered outfit. This was designed by Asger Juel Larson for his Fall/Winter 2013 collection. The menswear look comprised an oversized bomber jacket, pants and a zip up mask all covered in yellow flames outlined in orange. She also wore combat boots by Dr. Martens. The white Jadon lace-up boots have a black platform sole. Her jewelry included multiple rings by Lynn Ban and a necklace by Ambush. The Ambush crest choker is from the Japanese brand’s Nomad collection and features their bolt motif.
The second outfit of the night was designed by Adam Selman, Rihanna’s most frequent collaborator and head of her design team. This look was all about old school rock.
Adam created a black denim snap button jacket with fringe detail and then covered it in several patches. These patches celebrated some of the best rock bands that ever existed like Metallica, Guns N Roses, and AC/DC. You can take a closer look at the patches in the gallery below. Selman also took a vintage tee by the band Krokus from the 1984 Blitz tour and turned it into a dress by ripping it and adding lace to the neckline and hem. Rih wore the same Dr. Martens boots and Ambush choker mentioned above but a few cuffs by Lynn Ban were added to this look.
