Haus of Rihanna started in August 2011 so we’ve only covered Rihanna’s last three appearances at the Grammy Awards. She’s expected to kill it on the red carpet once again this year so I thought we could take a trip down memory lane and revisit her first four Grammy looks. If you need to refresh your memory on her most recent Grammy outfits, take a peek at 2012, 2013 and 2015.
In 2007 Rihanna attended the Grammy Awards for the very first time. Her single S.O.S had hit number one several months earlier and she was slowly coming into her own as an artist. She wore a gorgeous emerald green gown by Roberto Cavalli. The pleated floor-length dress seems to have been inspired by Look 14 from the designer’s Spring/Summer 2007 collection.
By the time the next show rolled around, the Barbadian singer had undergone a major transformation. In the past year she had died her hair jet black, cropped it into that famous bob and released Umbrella, the song that made her a household name worldwide. Rih showed up to collect her very first Grammy with her hair cropped even shorter and wearing an unforgettable blue dress by Zac Posen. It’s important to note that Rihanna was Posen’s muse at this time and the two made a perfect pair. The short frock, which was part of his Spring/Summer 2008 collection [Look 37], featured straps, a corseted bodice and a feathered underskirt. She also wore Jimmy Choo sandals and Chopard jewellery that included a 27-carat Barrel cuff.
At the 2010 ceremony Rihanna looked ethereal in an ivory gown from Elie Saab‘s Fall 2009 couture collection [Look 19]. The draped gown featured a high neck, open back and feather detailing. Rihanna rocked the look with a blonde coiffure, appropriately wintry makeup, earrings and a bracelet by Neil Lane and Jimmy Choo‘s nude Lance sandals. Her manicurist Kimmie Kyees added some edge with money-print Minx nails. Click here for all the details.
Finally, let’s discuss 2011’s outfit. Rihanna sported one of her most controversial looks that evening. For the second year in a row she wore a white dress but this time from Jean Paul Gaultier‘s Spring 2011 couture collection [Look 46]. The risky, figure-hugging gown consisted of sheer panels and gradiating tulle ruffles. She also donned a ring by Wilfredo Rosado and nude Christian Louboutin pumps.
