Rihanna once again took over the red carpet at the Met Gala tonight (May 7.) The music superstar and business mogul is one of the co-chairs of this year’s event along with international lawyer Amal Clooney and iconic fashion designer Donatella Versace. The theme of the 2018 Met Gala is “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” There must have been so much pressure on Rihanna and her longtime stylist Mel Ottenberg to create a look that met the high standards they set at previous Met Balls but they did not disappoint.
The Barbadian beauty donned a Maison Margiela by John Galliano look. The stunning couture ensemble comprised a stunning mini dress with a sweetheart neckline, a skirt with a slit at the front and a jacket. In a red carpet interview with Vogue, Rih admitted that the outfit was quite heavy and that it required multiple fittings before it all came together. The entire thing was hand-sewn right down to the crystal and pearl embellishment. Stephen Jones Millinery created the mitre, that’s the bishop’s hat she wore.
A pair of Christian Louboutin pumps complemented the look. These are the Pigalle 120mm Burma Ring Strass pumps. Lots of hematite crystals cover the silver suede shoes. The pumps also have a covered heel and pointed toe.
Rih carried a custom handbag by Judith Leiber. Based on the brand’s Slim Slide clutch, Rihanna’s bag boasts similar pearl and crystal embellishment to her Margiela look. There is also a cross motif at the center.
This necklace is straight from Cartier‘s archives. The 1930s pendant necklace features different types of gemstones as well as pavé diamonds. Some of those gemstones form the shape of a dove and the pendant ends with Jesus on the cross. A perfect piece for the night’s theme.
It’s been a while since we last saw Rihanna in vintage jewelry from Kentshire. There was this one diamond necklace that she adored and wore constantly for years. Just check the Kentshire tag for proof. It goes all the way back to 2012. Anyway, tonight the songstress wore this antique old mine diamond rivière necklace that costs $33,000. Made of silver-plated 14k gold, the 16″ necklace has a total 8.36 ct of old cut diamonds.
One set of her earrings is from Konstantino. These 18k yellow gold earrings have an etched design that suited the theme. They are from the Flamenco Gold collection and cost $1,300.
Additionally, Rih donned two different types of earrings by Maria Tash. She wore two of the designer’s Diamond Double Sided Aspara rings. Note they are called rings because they can be worn in the septum or daith. There are a few different sizes and metal options for these pavé diamond rings but pictured here is the 1/4″ in white gold, which goes for $1,240.
The singer also wore the marquise diamond scalloped eternity earring. Like the ring mentioned above, it comes in various sizes. This one features scalloped edge marquise cut diamonds set in 18k white gold.
So about those rings. On her right hand Rihanna rocked two of Loree Rodkin‘s marquise diamond rings, which boast 5.13ct of pavé diamonds and two grey pear-shaped diamonds (18.58ct and 14.83ct.)
On that hand you’ll spot this antique harem ring from Kentshire. Dating back to the early 1900s, this set of three 18k yellow gold and platinum rings bears 4.16ct of diamonds. It costs $24,500.
On her left hand is a maltese cross ring by Konstantino. Rih first wore this sterling silver, 18k yellow gold and pearl ring to the launch of her “Riri” perfume back in 2015.
Here’s a photo of the Gilan ring she wore on her middle finger. From the Palace Heritage collection, the design references 15th century Istanbul. It features 2.72 rose cut diamonds set in yellow gold.
This ring is another vintage piece and she got it from Eleuteri. Made in Italy during the late 1800s, this diamond ring features a large Colombian emerald set in a mix of gold and silver.
Rihanna also sported a ring by Camilla Dietz Bergeron along with several anklets by XIV Karats. FYI: her style team included Yusef Williams on hair, Maria Salandra on nails and Priscilla Ono on makeup. Ono definitely used a ton of Fenty Beauty‘s Body Lava all over and it looks like that lip topper is from the new product launch coming May 21.
