Rihanna has landed the cover of W Magazine‘s September 2014 issue. Everyone in fashion knows that September issues are considered the most important so the covers are highly coveted. Not only did the CFDA Fashion Icon of the Year land the cover and an accompanying editorial but she also has a second spread alongside legendary models Iman and Naomi Campbell. For now, let’s take a look at the cover shoot, which was shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott and was styled by Edward Enninful. The theme of the photo shoot was wild child/creature of the night and had a bit of a tribal feel. Her makeup was done by the amazing Kabuki, who is the genius behind the Where Have You Been video makeup.
On the cover Rihanna looks wild and fierce in a feather headdress by milliner Ashley Lloyd. Her earrings are Amrapali‘s spiky ruby and diamond ear cuffs. This was the shoot that introduced the singer to Meadowlark‘s gold and precious stone faux septum ring, which became her favourite accessory for a while back in July. She is also wearing a dress by Donna Karan and a necklace by Stephen Dweck.
In the two photos above, the star reclines in an Ashley Lloyd headdress, a feather and fur coat from Michael Kors’ Fall/Winter 2014 collection and a belt by Lost Art. The boots are Isabel Marant‘s Fall 2014 Pietra lapin leather boots, which are available to pre-order for $1,940. Her jewelry includes large dangling earrings by Erickson Beamon, a silver shark tooth septum ring (£95) by Rachel Boston, an elaborate necklace from NN by Nghi, and Diaboli Kill‘s Damian ring in pyrite and black gold ($595). Click through the gallery at the end of the post for a closer look at some of these items.
Next up Rih joins the wolf pack in a hooded fur coat and intricate hand bracelets from Alexander McQueen‘s Fall/Winter 2014 collection. Fur-trimmed over-the-knee boots from Marc Jacobs‘ Fall/Winter 2014 collection are an apt addition to this look. Once again she is wearing Meadowlark‘s faux small thorn septum ring and a necklace from NN by Nghi as well as furry earrings and cuffs by Alexis Bittar.
In the portrait above we get up and close and personal with the wild child. Here Rih is wearing a Meadowlark small thorn septum ring, large shield-like earrings by Lynn Ban, who collaborates frequently with the pop star, and a sweater from Comme des Garçons‘ funky Fall/Winter 2014 collection.
In the left photo the singer is wearing a coat by Helen Yarmak and a skirt by Nicole Miller Atelier. In the right photo she is wearing a Lanvin coat. In both her hair is adorned with a Candice Angélini mask and an Yves Salomon fur stole. Again we see her in the Amrapali ear cuffs and Meadowlark septum ring in addition to Lynn Ban vintage bone cuffs and a Pure Vile choker.
Rihanna has had quite a few magazine covers in the last year. This one is definitely one of the best. Which one is your favourite so far?
